Often mistaken for a small German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois are one of four distinct herding breeds native to Belgium. Belgian Malinois are energetic and generally require more activity than smaller breeds, which makes them an excellent choice for high-energy owners and active families.

Malinoiss can be aloof in the company of other dogs and strangers. Rarely are they shy, aggressive, or fearful. They make excellent watchdogs and possess the size, intelligence, and agility to be capable guard dogs.

As a herding breed, Belgian Malinois may chase or nip at small children, which can be corrected with early and frequent training and socialization. These intelligent pups are sensitive to punishment - they need a trainer who is firm, fair and consistent.
